Full Mouth Rehabilitation

Full Mouth Rehabilitation or Reconstruction or Restoration are simply different ways of describing the process of rebuilding the teeth, in one or both of jaws, in order to bring you mouth up to the best shape possible and allow you to function normally.

Full mouth rehabilitation or FMR is performed by a team of specialists who either in part or whole:

  • • Alter the shape of the teeth by means of veneers, inlays, onlays or crowns (Prosthodontist, Dr.Reiyal)
  • • Alter the position of teeth by means of braces or aligners (Orthodontist, Dr. Nikhil)
  • • Replace missing teeth by implants (Implantologist, Dr. Reiyal)
  • • Alter the nerves of teeth (Endodontist, Dr. Neha)
  • • Remove broken down or hopeless teeth (Oral surgeon, Dr. Vividha)
  • • Alter the shape of the bones of the jaw (Maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Yazad)
  • • Alter the shape of the gums around the teeth (Periodontist, Dr. Abhishek)

Full mouth rehabilitation is usually required for teeth that are

  • • Broken down
  • • Grossly decayed
  • • Worn out due to erosion from acid reflux, fizzy drinks and very coarse foods
  • • Complaints of pain in the jaws, muscles and joints due to an incorrect occlusal pattern

Procedure:

The procedure usually involves multiple visits and procedures in order to restore your mouth to good function and aesthetics.

The entire plan and various options will be discussed with you prior to starting the treatment so as to ensure that you are well informed of the time frame, number of visits and treatment costs.

FAQS:

How do I know I need a full mouth rehabilitation?

If most of your teeth have worn out due to decay or chemical erosion. They could even be chipped, fractured or broken due to bad dietary habits and/or excessive tooth grinding. You could also have pain in the jaw joints, muscles around the joints or headaches due to an incorrect chewing and biting pattern. This may need to be corrected by means of a full mouth rehabilitation.

Is a smile makeover and full mouth rehabilitation the same?

Even though these terms are used interchangeably the procedures are completely different and intended for different rationales. Smile makeovers are done for cosmetic purposes and Dr. Reiyal follows digital smile design concepts to provide superior results. The entire process is done digitally and hence is known as digital smile makeover.

Full mouth rehabilitation is done for a functional correction or restoration of the entire mouth to improve chewing, speaking and overall aesthetics.
