Root Canal Treatment

Most of us have usually experienced a sharp shooting pain when we have extremely cold foods and beverages. This is usually hypersensitivity arising from decayed teeth which have lost the integrity of the outermost enamel layer. However, do you experience pain when having hot fluids or a persistent pain that might not go away even after taking medication? Have you noticed that there is some swelling in the jaw or gum area surrounding a particular tooth ?

Your tooth probably requires a root canal. Does the sound of that word make you cringe or immediately wish you didn’t have teeth so as to not go through with the procedure? Have no fear. We have our very own root canal specialist at kemp’s corner, the upgraded new location of Reiyal’s Dentistry. This procedure is usually done in one sitting and is painless.

Procedure:

This procedure involves the use of dental anaesthesia unless the tooth nerve is completely dead.

Following the administration of local anaesthesia the nerve of the affected tooth is removed by the root canal specialist using specific instruments called files. The canal is cleaned thoroughly and then a non-reactive root material called gutta percha is placed inside the cleaned root space. This indicates the completion of the root canal.

Following this, the tooth usually would have to undergo a few more procedures before it goes back into function.

The first one being a core filling. The missing tooth structure is replaced by a composite restoration known as a core filling.

The tooth finally receives a dental crown which can be either of porcelain fused to metal (PFM) crown or a full ceramic crown. This decision will be taken by Dr. Reiyal prior to the start of treatment.
