Nasal Prosthesis

A silicone nasal prosthesis or nose prosthesis is an artificial replacement of the nose and its associated structures.

Total nasal defects following rhinectomy (removal of the nose) are extremely difficult to replicate with further surgical procedures. Nasal prosthesis provides an excellent treatment option for such patients in terms of aesthetics and function.

Surgical procedure

Rhinectomy is the surgical procedure in which either a part or the entire nose is removed.

If only a portion of the nose is removed it is called a partial rhinectomy

If the entire nose is removed it is called a total rhinectomy.

Fabrication of the prosthesis:

An initial facial scan or impression will be made to replicate your facial structures.

Once a facial moulage is obtained your nose is fabricated using silicone. Having a picture prior to fabrication will be helpful in determining the shape of the final prosthesis. The prosthesis is matched to your skin tone.

The prosthesis can either be retained by means of an adhesive or by dental implants.

FAQS:

Will this prosthesis be fixed permanently to my face?

This will not be possible with this prosthesis. Just as any foreign object when it comes to the body this prosthesis will need to be cleaned and maintained. Regular removal is recommended for proper hygiene maintenance.

Can I wear this prosthesis and go to sleep?

Since the prosthesis is attached to your face by means of a glue or implants it will not be able to take prolonged pressure. We highly recommend removal of the prosthesis at night.
