Professional Dental Cleaning

Teeth Cleaning or clean-up is also known as a scaling procedure and is one of the most common procedures done at Reiyal’s dentistry, Kemps Corner.

The reason why most patients would consider this procedure is that their teeth have turned yellow or dark in colour. This change in colour of the teeth is usually due to the accumulation of plaque (soft food debris) and tartar (long standing plaque that becomes hard and adheres firmly to teeth).

Another reason for undergoing a teeth cleaning would be the presence of bad breath. Bad breath is most commonly due to poor oral hygiene however, ill-fitting dental prosthesis and dry mouth could also be another reason.

Procedure:

The Scaling procedure is non-invasive and involves the use of a specialised instrument known as a dental scaler. This scaler uses ultrasonic vibration to break apart the tartar and plaque after which it is removed easily. The clean-up is followed by a polishing to make the teeth more resistant towards plaque build-up.

FAQS

Will a clean-up harm my teeth?

Not at all. The ultrasonic scaler is gentle and will not damage the tooth structure. It will only remove the plaque and tartar debris improving your oral hygiene.

How often should I get a clean-up?

This usually depends on factors such as your own oral hygiene maintenance, the position of your teeth in the mouth, the quality and quantity of your saliva, presence of habits such as smoking, use of caffeinated beverages or coloured foods etc. The dentist will take a decision so as to determine the frequency of your teeth cleaning so that your oral health is maintained at an optimum level, making the dental clean-up cost effective for overall general health.
